Bette Lou's Story
With my grandson's homecoming dance just a few weeks ago I thought about my freshman homecoming dance & thought I'd share it. My boyfriend at the time said he couldn't take me to the dance because he had to work, BUT he told me his friend said that he'd take me. It was my first dance in high school & I wasn't going to miss it, so I said ok. This fellow & I went to the dance & hung around with his senior friends. no......I had a boyfriend. Little did I know that on Monday my boyfriend wasn't where we used to meet in the hallway in the morning. He wasn't there the second day & so on and so forth . I was thrown under the bus because I went to the dance with his friend that he arranged!! I'm not going to mention any names, but Winnie, if you are reading this, you will know who I'm talking about because you were the next in line to be his girlfriend. Many times I've thought about this & wondered how my life would have turned out if I'd have said to his friend, yes, I'll go steady with you!!
